A mini-series does make more sense than a single feature film, considering the sheer size of the thing.

So, it looks like they're planning to do three feature films, one on each of the three sections of the novel.

Throughout the decades, stars from Barbara Stanwyck to Angelina Jolie have expressed interest in bringing the novel to life, but it’s going to be producers Harmon Kaslow and John Aglialoro who finally break the curse. Directed by Paul Johansson, who also stars as John Galt, and co-starring Taylor Schilling as Dagny Taggart and Matthew Marsden as James Taggart, principal photography wrapped this very day. Which means…

Yes, there will be an “Atlas Shrugged” movie. Well, at least a part one.

Big Hollywood has enjoyed two visits to the film’s set, which our own Charles Winecoff will be writing more about soon, but due to the fact that much of what we’re reading in the media regarding the film’s production doesn’t coincide with what we’ve seen and heard for ourselves, I asked producer Harmon Kaslow to help set the record straight.

Wow, the director is a guy who only directed 12 episodes of a TV show before? AND he's the main character too? That's a doozy.

They really fucked their timing for this movie. It should have been made in the nineties.

Yeah, one could reasonably be concerned about the quality of the production.

Cool.
"Let us remember that no man can borrow money, as a good business transaction, under any system, unless he has the required security to make the lender whole in case he should lose the money. What a stupendous wrong is this—that a man having credit cannot use it, but must exchange it and pay a monopoly price, which is really for the privilege of using his own credit!"

I'm glad that the movie will be in multiple parts. One feature-length film would be too short.

Did the director ever say that there would be three films, exactly? I only heard him say that this film covers part 1 of the book. I guess the number of sequels if any will depend on ticket sales of this one.

Though if the film gets a wide-enough release I can't imagine that it would do poorly.

It does sound like they're planning to do it as a trilogy. Here's an excerpt from the article to which I linked a few days ago: "As of now the plan is to release part one of “Atlas Shrugged” in theatres sometime during the second quarter of 2011 and start production on the second part the following fall."
